Our printing & distribution marketing company in St. Louis Missouri is serious about making a positive impact on the lives of those impacted by special needs. We’ve dedicated three different work programs to developing work and social skills for young adults in our community through our print and warehouse fulfillment business sectors. Why It’s So Important to the Accent Family:
When our oldest son, Gary, was born with a brain abnormality, we became aware of the world of special needs. In raising our son, we learned that fewer than 20% of U.S. adults with special needs are employed. We wanted to improve this statistic and make a difference for our community.
Our Work Programs:
We proudly support local and national philanthropic organizations, but the cause that is nearest to our hearts is supporting our local Special School District (SSD). We host three programs that give young adults with special needs an opportunity to learn valuable work and social skills that enable them to succeed with future employment as well as in life. Teammates spend time learning new skills, making friends, learning how to be part of a team and conquering challenges every day. Accent is proud to participate in these programs:
• Vocational Skills Program (VSP)
• Summer Work Experience Program (SWEP)
• Community Based Vocational Instruction (CBVI)
What the kids do:
Our kids do a great many things. They build kits for shipping, fold boxes, pick and pack, organize, and work in assembly lines in the warehouse. They work in the bindery doing a variety of jobs, from packing and stuffing envelopes to assembling training kits. They have even worked in the print area making layouts and helping with file management. Each child is special and unique, and we always work to use their gifts and challenge them safely so they can grow. What they give us in return is so much more
These work programs make a positive impact on the lives of hundreds of families in our community, but they also inspire our employees and warm the hearts of our clients. Our team is truly energized by these programs and they have changed our perspective on what it means to create an environment that is inclusive of all our employees.
